Terrifying retexture of all 11 dragons in the base game and DLCs to make you quiver in fear at these truly awesome creatures.—Official Summary

Official Description[edit]

Terrifying retexture of all 11 dragons in the base game and DLCs to make you quiver in fear at these truly awesome creatures.

I'm limited to only 12 photos here for 11 dragons, and each dragon looks different at night, so I've uploaded many more photos here: https://www.skypocalypse.com/dragons You can also go to that website for discord links if you want to help test my mods or report a bug with this one.

Each dragon was carefully retextured with blending and hand methods to bring their most spine-chilling essence to the forefront. I utilized textures such as acid pools, burned concrete, plasma from the surface of the sun, glacial cliffs, moss, reptile skin, crocodile eyes, nebulas, rotting flesh and more to turn pastel fantasy pals into the imposing and terrifyingly monstrous creatures they should have always been. They all have glowing eyes and most also have a glowing fire (or frost) effect in the back of their throats and some glow to their skin, so they will be as hair-raising at night as they are in the daytime. I also fixed some vanilla issues while I was at it.

My first time playing Skyrim the dragons were difficult but I never found them very imposing. I've been planning this retexture project for two years and after learning more photoshop skills decided that it was time to jump in and get it done. This wouldn't have been possible without my good friend GolinskiPRH who separated the eyeballs which was essential in making them realistically high resolution and glowable. He also took most of the screenshots you see. Check him out on Nexus. https://next.nexusmods.com/profile/GolinskiPRH/about-me

This mod contains both meshes and textures and it repaths vanilla dragon textures to a different folder. You can overwrite it with a mod that changes only one dragon only if that mod also edits the meshes (for example my Drogon Alduin mod). Just place that mod below this one in your load order.

For PC the dragon body (color and normal map) textures are in 8K resolution (actually 4K x 8K for everyone but Alduin) which is twice vanilla resolution. Remember that dragons are VERY LARGE. For Xbox, they are all half size due to the size restrictions for mods. If you have a newer console and enough space, then I strongly recommend using the High Res Texture Patch for Monstrrous Dragons found here: https://creations.bethesda.net/en/skyrim/edit/9940a888-ed2a-4b42-801e-e8c59f7d33c8/High_Res_Patch_for_Xila__39_s_Monstrrous_Dragons

I used a wide variety of sources for the textures I blended in here. Thanks so much to the creators who contributed to making those on these sites: gametextures.com texturelabs.org stock.adobe.com sharetextures.com The nebula eyeball is by Starline at https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/purple-galaxy-background_897669.htm

Bugs[edit]

  • The Blood Dragon diffuse texture has an incorrect alpha channel. This was fixed in Skyrim Special Edition 1.6.1130, but the fix appears to be missing from this Verified Creation. ?
