In an otherwise waterlogged journal you find the following passage:

... long months have passed but Seeks-Ancient-Secrets and myself have finally reached the location indicated by the map the mage sold us in Vergayun. Except there is nothing here! Nothing other than this smelly cave. Seeks has gone back to town to get more supplies. Meanwhile I shall see what lies at the end of this tunnel.

[Another passage survived the ravages of time]

Cursed Falmer! Cursed Chaurus! May the Hist rend them into Oblivion! I found the scroll, only to be attacked by these cursed beings! I managed to escape into this cave. They will not follow me here. The spiders keep them away. The sting of the chaurus has seen to my ultimate fate. I will not survive. These secrets will die with me this day.
