Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Talk to Master Aryon in the Upper Tower in Tel Vos for chores.
- Raise to the rank of Magister to declare your intentions of becoming Archmagister.
- Defeat Gothren to become Archmagister.
- Return to Aryon to be named Archmagister.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Chores[edit]
Talk to Master Aryon in the Upper Tower in Tel Vos about chores or Advancement to learn that he can grant you the rank of Master now, which will give you an equal place on the Telvanni Council, but if you aspire to a higher claim, he can also grant you the title of Magister. By accepting the title of Magister, you are announcing that you deserve the title of Archmagister more than Gothren, who currently holds that rank.
Becoming Master[edit]
If you choose to become Master, you won't be able to ascend to Archmagister of House Telvanni. However, if you change your mind later, you can ask Aryon to name you Magister.
Becoming Archmagister[edit]
If you choose to become Magister, Aryon will tell you that you have the support of the Telvanni Council, but you still have to dispose of Archmagister Gothren, who you will have to kill before taking his place (at this point you get +10 Disposition, +10 Faction Reputation and +2 Reputation, but only if you raised from the rank of Wizard). Gothren can be found in Tel Aruhn.
Return to Aryon when Gothren is dead and be promoted to Archmagister and receive an extra +10 Faction Reputation and +2 Reputation.
Notes[edit]
- After you become Archmagister, Fast Eddie will no longer offer you any of his quests, so make sure you start them before doing this or they will be lost.
- If you want to get the other Councilors' personal quests in your journal (not the ones through their Mouths, but the ones you actually get when you speak to them), be sure to do so before killing Gothren. If you try to get the journal entries after you have killed Gothren, the councilors will not assign you chores anymore, and instead, will ask what they can do for you.
- You could also accomplish the Councilors' tasks without the journal quest entries, thereby also acquiring the items they ask for during their respective quests without the "obligation" to turn them in to complete the quests.
- Gothren's Mouth, Mallam Ryon, will disappear when you kill Gothren.
- If you have already killed Gothren, Aryon will promote you to Archmagister automatically, skipping the rank of Magister. This way you'll only get +20 Faction Reputation and +2 Reputation.
Bugs[edit]
- It is possible to reach the rank of Master before you are given the chance to become Magister. This stops you at the Master rank and prevents you from getting the chance to become Archmagister. For a way around this bug, see here.
- While you will receive journal entries for it, you will not see Archmagister Gothren in your list of quests ?
- You may not receive a journal entries at all for this quest, but will still be able to complete the quest normally ?
