Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Borgunna.
  2. Talk to the guards and Caelia Draconis (if she's still alive).
  3. Free Gunnar and get him to the port.
  4. Return to Borgunna.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

This quest is only accessible while doing Ghost in the Cemetery. Borgunna has information for you, but she wants something in return - her lover, Gunnar, is in jail for assaulting a guard, and she wants you to free him. First you'll have to talk to the guards, who will direct you to their captain, Caelia Draconis (if you haven't killed her during the Dark Brotherhood questline). In any case, the guards aren't willing to let him go - their honor was impugned, and they want to hang him.

So, you have no choice but to break him out. This is relatively simple, assuming you have a way to open the cell door. Sneak past the guards and head to any gate; Gunnar will flee to safety, and you can return to Borgunna to report your success.

Note: If Gunnar dies during the escape, not only will you fail this quest, you'll also fail Ghost in the Cemetery, as Borgunna will refuse to help you.

5 Borgunna, a servant of the Valerius House, asked me to help free her boyfriend, Gunnar, from the dungeon. He was arrested for assaulting a city guard. I need to talk to Gunnar.
10 Gunnar said that the conflict with the guard arose due to the guard insulting Borgunna during their meeting with Gunnar. Gunnar hopes that he will be pardoned and released, but is ready, if necessary, to escape. I need to talk to the guards - judge the mood in their ranks.
15 A guard directed me to speak with Caelia Draconis, captain of the guard of Leyawiin.

Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On PC It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage BANLeyawiinFoolishYouth stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
