Eugene in his home

Eugene is an Imperial commoner who makes his living as a painter. He works out of his house in the Bravil Docks.

Eugene sleeps late, until noon every day. He immediately heads to the canvas to paint what he sees in his dreams the night before, so he doesn't lose the images; he works there until 6pm, when he breaks for two hours to eat. After that, it's back to painting for another four hours, then he knocks off to read a book before going to bed at 4am.

He wears clothing he doesn't mind getting dirty: a dark green shirt, blacksmith's pants, and rough leather shoes. He carries some beef, an apple, and a spare paintbrush.

Eugene lives in a small house - little more than a hovel - above the Bravil Barrel Brewery. It consists of a single room split into two parts by a partial wall. The part nearest the door is split into storage and a dining alcove; the other, larger, part is his workspace and "bedroom" (a bed and chest of drawers).

The first time you talk to him, he'll ask: "What? Have you come here to buy one of my paintings?!" If you refuse, he says: "Figures... I knew it would be too good to be true..." If you inquire further, he tells you his sob story: "Painting is my whole life, but no-one seems to notice! I paint and paint, every single day, but I never get anywhere! No one seems to want my paintings. I haven't sold a painting in over a year! I'm reduced to eating rotten food, and I haven't bathed in a month!" If you offer to help, this leads to the non-journal quest Eugene's Sketches.

If you talk to him after completing his quest, things are looking up for him: "Oh, I can never thank you enough! Orders have been pouring in since you helped me! I actually ate fresh bread this morning!"
