  5. Find the rest of the notes and collect your reward.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

This quest begins when you find one of the many notes scattered around the city.

When you find six notes, you'll get another journal entry prompting you to look outside the city walls, specifically the nort port. Ask around, and someone (random) will suggest you talk to Decentius Opsius. He, in turn, will point you toward Janar the Philosopher, a Khajiit who lives in the north part of the city. He'll readily cop to writing them, and ask you to find more in return for a reward.

There are 20 notes total; they can be found in the following locations:

  • Beside the statue of Topal the Pilot.
  • On the ground outside Ra'Jahirr's house (under the bush to the left of the door).
  • On a bench to the north of the south harbor gate.
  • On the stoop outside the Five Claws Lodge.
  • At the base of the statue to the left of the Fighters Guild front door.
  • On one of the benches just south of the outdoor market.
  • On a bench outside of Mahei's house.
  • In the Lazy Cat Tavern, on one of the hooka tables.
  • On the right rearmost pew in The Great Chapel of Zenithar.
  • In the Mages Guild, to the right of the front door.
  • On the railing at the rear of the gazebo.
  • On the railing of a stone bridge northeast of the chapel.
  • On one of the couches in Castle Leyawiin County Hall.
  • On a bench in the graveyard, beside the tomb.
  • On the ground near the campfire in the Khajiit Quarter.
  • On the steps beside the southern cat statue along the canal, just north of the south gate.
  • On a barrel outside Dar Jee's house.
  • On the bench outside the House for Sale.
  • On a bench overlooking the canal south of the fountain.
  • In the Bank of Cyrodiil, on the table to the right of the door.

Once you find 15 notes, you'll get another journal entry; go find Janar, and he'll give you a book called About Happiness and Love. When you read the book, go and find yet another note to get a final journal entry.

Journal Entries[edit]

Curious Notes (BANLeyawiinCuriousNotes)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
1 I came across a note with unusual verses, author unknown. I should look around, maybe I will find more notes.
2 A second note. So, I expect that I will continue to find more.
3 Apparently, there are a lot of notes and they are all over the place. Who is writing them? I should find out why the notes are written.
4 Another note.
5 And one more... I need to ask the residents of Leyawiin about these notes.
10 So far, inquiries have led nowhere. All the notes I have found were within the city walls. Are there any outside the walls? I should search around the port and ask the people there.
20 I must ask Decentius Opsius from the Coast Guard Station whether he knows the author of these notes.
25 Janar the Philosopher lives in the Khajiit Quarter which is in the northern part of the city. I should speak to him.
30 I need to collect all the notes for Janar the Philosopher, and then he will give me something very valuable.
40 I have found fifteen notes. Perhaps this is all of them. I'm going to see Janar.
50 I have received the wisdom of an unknown Khajiit author as a reward. The book is clearly worth reading by the fireplace, after another long and difficult adventure.
100 Finishes quest☑ Behold! Another note from Janar. Apparently he continued to throw beautiful and wise poems of the great Khajiit to the townspeople.

Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On PC It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage BANLeyawiinCuriousNotes stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
