Beirir the Generous

Beirir the Generous is a Nord savant who runs the Refugee House.

She leads a busy life. She gets up at 8am every morning and spends some time at home before going about her business. On Morndas, Middas, and Fredas, she goes to the Refugee House at 9am and spends the day there, returning home at 5pm. On Turdas and Loredas, she goes to Kraken's Spa at noon for a two-hour lunch followed by a two-hour massage. On Sundas, she remains home all day. Regardless of the day, she takes a break at noon to eat lunch for two hours; after she gets her massage or completes her duties at the Refugee House, she returns home for the rest of the day, retiring to bed at 10pm.

She wears a blacksmith's apron and pants, and rough leather shoes; she carries a fig for snacking.

Beirir's house is located in the slums of southern Bruma, behind the chapel. It is one large room, split into three parts. A lower alcove to one side holds a double bed; the largest part, in the middle, has a large dining table and a counter with racks of cheap wine behind it; another alcove at the other end of the room holds a wine-press and a barrel of grapes.

Beirir is a kindly old woman, always happy to see a new face: Oh hello dear! Please, come in out of the cold and sit by the fire! You stay out there too long and you'll catch a chill! Are you hungry? I have plenty to food to share." If you comment about her generosity, she tries to downplay it: "Oh, I do get embarrassed when people call me that, I'm just doing what I feel is right... I'm no hero, I'm just sharing what I have with those who are less fortunate than I. As you get older, you begin to see life differently! You realize that you can have all the money in the world, but it won't make you happy. So, I share what I have with others, so they can feel happy, which in turn makes me feel happy! Do you understand now? I visit the Refugee House on a regular basis, bringing them food and drink, even warm clothes and bed linen... it breaks my heart to see them suffer the way they do, especially when I have such a warm house, and more food than I could ever hope to eat."
